FRENCH FRIES

French fries is a piece of crispy fried potatoes. Long shape but smaller and thinner. French fries means "fried until crisp". Potatoes fried to a crisp potato called French fries, French fries abbreviated. Food was also called potato chips, meaning "small pieces of potato".

Potatoes came from Peru and Bolivia in South America. In the 15th century Spanish people took to Europe. Apparently, potatoes can flourish. At the end of the 18th century the potato had become one of the main foods in Europe, in addition with bread. From there it spread to the colonies potato-colonies of European countries.

In America, the farmers also grow potatoes. However, in the New England region is fodder potatoes. Then, Thomas Jefferson became the American ambassador in France. In which he served, Jefferson was very fond of French. On his return from France, America's prominent French fries are often served to guests. As a result, the prestige of potatoes up. Moreover, Jefferson became the third President of the United States.

Upper class American restaurants are not ashamed to serve French fries. However, the French fries were not very long slender like now. Sliced potatoes are still thick.

One day in the year 1853, a man ordered French fries at an elegant restaurant in the Moon Lake Lodge, Saratoga Springs, United States. Chef restaurant, an Indian named George Crum, made French fries are sliced thick as usual. Apparently, the guest is satisfied. "Cut too thick," he said. The waiter returned the chips to the kitchen. Food was started called Saratoga Chips and a special menu at the restaurant. Crum later opened his own restaurant. Seeing his success, others imitate.
