During the last 30 years, the effect global warming has caused a decrease in the number of polar sea ice in the summer between 15% to 20%. Polar bears use the ice in the arctic as a place to breed, raise their children, and hunt their primary food: seals. The ice melt in the polar ice is forming on the autumn and the ice melting earlier in spring. This cut the time to look for bears to eat and multiply.

Polar bears accumulate most of the fat body each spring with the seals that eat the amount of decrease in line with the declining number of polar ice. As a result, polar bears eat less and to 10% more compared with the lean 20 years ago. The ability of children through the polar bear the first year of life they come down from 65% in the annual 1980s to only 43% at this time.

This, plus other factors, encourage Fish and Wildlife Service United States ask that polar bears are included in category "threatened extinction" under the Act endangered species is the U.S.. If the polar bear gets official status of "threatened", they can become important icons in the global warming.
